I Would Like to Give You Five Film Products Valued at $1,591 For FREE

From:

Patrick Westervelt Jr.

New York, New York

Sunday, 2:30 PM

Dear Friend and- hopefully- Student,

This is Patrick Westervelt Jr, author of The 10-Hour Film School.

I would like to make one thing clear. And that is...

I LIKE YOU!

I LIKE YOU!

Yes, I like you.

Do you know how few people actually take the time to better themselves? To pursue a passion? To become better at an art? It's not many, and that's very unfortunate.

But if you're here, I'm guessing that means you do care. Maybe it's to pursue something film-related professionally. Maybe it's to start a side hustle. Maybe it's just because you love movies. Whatever the reason, you care! And that's awesome.

So because you care, I want to give you a special offer.

You probably know me through The 10-Hour Film School. And the book is an awesome introduction to media criticism. But as you may guess, becoming a master of something takes a lot more than ten hours.

It takes a lifetime.

And while the book provides the framework for a lifetime of learning, there's a few other things I want to give you to speed up that process even more.

Please take a look at this- I think you'll like it...

You're about to receive access to a free video course solidifying everything taught in The 10-Hour Film School.

The 10-Hour Film School Crash Course Masterclass

A $525 total Value (Yours-For-Free)

screens showing the course and the sheet

In just a moment, you will have access to this course, for free, forever.

The 10-Hour Film School Crash Course Masterclass is a video companion to the The 10-Hour Film School. Really, I wish there were a way I could truly bundle them together. Films are a visual medium, aren't they?

In the masterclass (valued at $500), I give you the following:

  • An example of the SCENE Framework in action, using a public domain film that you can watch as part of the course.

  • A clear walkthrough of elements that are impossible to convey in a book, such as how to use the internet to find quality sources.

  • A means of leaving comments on specific parts of the process, in order to get clarification from both myself and other practitioners.

  • An additional set of PDFs that can be used in this course, alongside the book, and with any movie to streamline the SCENE Framework's usage (valued at $25)

Listen—

Even if you're someone who typically learns from reading, it's incredibly helpful to see how to apply the framework taught in The 10-Hour Film School in real life.

Authors and leaders and consultants typically charge hundreds of dollars for demos and videos and calls on how to fully utilize the frameworks taught about in their books. It's how they make their money- they hope that some of their readers will see the value of what's taught in the book, but will need a little extra push to put it into practice.

You can have that push for absolutely free.

Now... You may be wondering why I'm giving you this video course for nothing. Why am I not charging anything for it?

The answer to why I'm giving this away for free is simple...

IT'S A BRIBE!

I'm giving you the 10-Hour Film School Crash Course Masterclass as a shameless bribe for saying "maybe" to my physical monthly newsletter, The Lifelong Film School Newsletter.

Here's the deal: If you agree to a 1-month free trial of The Lifelong Film School Newsletter (which is life-changing, and I'll tell you about it in a moment), then——

I will give you The 10-Hour Film School Crash Course Masterclass completely free.

And there are no strings attached.

Here's what I mean: If you decide to cancel your 1-month free trial of The Lifelong Film School Newsletter——at any time——you still get to keep access to The 10-Hour Film School Crash Course Masterclass video course and its PDFs. Forever.

In fact, I'm so convinced that this newsletter will amaze you that I've decided to go all out and have created four more amazing gifts for you- all for absolutely free as long as you begin the 1-month trial of the newsletter.

FREE GIFT #2!

The 10-Hour Film School Bonus Chapter

(A $6 Value!)

the bonus chapter

While working on the The 10-Hour Film School, I knew that I had to keep it focused. I wanted it so that someone with only ten hours to spare could watch five movies, read a book, and emerge feeling changed. Feeling more intelligent. Feeling like a film critic.

Unfortunately, that meant cutting a chapter.

Production Design is an under-discussed element of films. The world that the film takes in is an incredibly important part of it, and on many movie sets, hundreds of people work together to create the perfect environment for the story to unfold in.

Since I was limited to covering only five topics, this one got cut. But I would like to give it to you anyway. A little bit of extra credit.

It is a wonderful digital companion to The 10-Hour Film School.

FREE GIFT #3!

The 10-Hour Film School Extra Credit Masterclass: 30 Films To Make YOU A More Astute Film Watcher

(A $255 total Value!)

screens showing the course and the sheet

Are you the kind of person who needs a little bit extra structure? Someone who wants to see things broken down into clear categories so that you can tackle them in the best way? Or maybe just someone who wants to watch some awesome movies?

If you answered yes to any of these (and I hope you did), then this is the course for you! In this course, I go over ten key aspects of film, and make three recommendations for each one. Diverse picks! One "classic," one more popular pick, and one niche pick. This way, you can train yourself in topics like cinematography, writing, production design, editing, and more from a diverse selection of films.

Each video goes over what specifically makes each film so useful to watch, in order to make sure you get as much out of these movies as possible. It's a great way to have fun watching movies while training your critical mind at the same time!

And free with this course is a helpful guide (valued at $5) to help you move along it.

FREE GIFT #4!

The 10-Hour Film School Advanced Course: Semiotics

(A $505 total Value!)

screens showing the course and the sheet

I went out of my way to make sure that The 10-Hour Film School was as accessible as possible- it presumes that you have very, very little knowledge about the field. That way anyone can read it and get value out of it!

But there are advanced topics out there- and semiotics is a big one.

The 10-Hour Film School Advanced Course: Semiotics is an introduction to a more advanced idea than any covered in the book, but if you've made it through the 10 hours, then you'll be up for this. It's a great way to get your toes wet with a film criticism topic less accessible to beginners and see just how far you've come.

Free with this course is a $5 cheat sheet on semiotics in relation to film.

FREE GIFT #5!

A 30-Day Tuition to The Lifelong Film School

(A $300 Value!)

the online community

I'm really going to drive this home. Learning is a lifelong process.

And as such, after you finish The 10-Hour Film School, you're going to have a lot more learning to do. Maybe that will take the form of just watching whatever movies you feel like, but a little bit more insightfully. Maybe you'll go on to watch every Oscar winner, and see what made them magic.

But maybe- just maybe- the best path forward is to surround yourself with others like yourself. Others who care about growing, and making awesome things.

If so, you want to meet other students of The 10-Hour Film School. You want to have some class discussions. You want to take a peek at how the others filled out their homework, because chances are that they wrote down some interesting stuff.

You will gain access to my community of film addicts, ready to discuss the movies from the book, the movies from the newsletter, and more. From discussions to accountability, you will make important, valuable connections in these hallowed, virtual halls.

Sound good?

To summarize, I'm giving you the five products mentioned FOR FREE.

Here's a screenshot of everything:

  2. The 10-Hour Film School Bonus Chapter - $6 Value

  3. The 10-Hour Film School Extra Credit Masterclass - $255 Value

  4. The 10-Hour Film School Advanced Course: Semiotics - $505 Value

I am giving you instant access to all five of these products—for free—just for saying "maybe" to my life-changing physical monthly newsletter, The Lifelong Film School Newsletter.

Why am I offering such an insane deal? (I mean, I could have always just charged for consultations on implementing the framework in the book).

Why am I giving you all of this for absolutely nothing?!

It's not because I hate money. It's because I want you to get on the fast track to being a film genius.

You see, it's very easy to start something. But following through on it is a lot harder.

Starting a YouTube channel, recording a podcast, setting up a WordPress blog, these are all things that anyone can do. But staying engaged? Working on film criticism even when it feels like no one is listening to you? Critically watching at least one movie every month?

That's hard. Let's call it what it is! It's not easy.

Yet no matter how hard it is, you need to stay consistent. Say it with me- Learning is a lifelong process. If you don't flex those muscles, you'll lose them.

And sure, it may sound simple to sit back and watch a movie every month, but that's not what you're doing. You're analyzing it, you're detecting whether your ideas are novel or not, you're trying to determine how best you can use it for your own content. It's. Not. Easy!

And that's where the monthly newsletter comes in.

The Lifelong Film School Newsletter is your monthly engagement. The kick in the pants that you need. Your real, physical newsletter, carefully delivered just to you, that makes you go, okay, let's do this.

THERE IS A "MAGIC" IN PHYSICAL MONTHLY NEWSLETTERS THAT SIMPLY CANNOT BE REPLACED

The internet makes it way too easy to sign up for things you know you aren't going to commit yourself to.

You can sign up for newsletters, you can google guides, you can watch YouTube tutorials, the list goes on. There are so many things that you can sign up for that are so easy to get started with.

The issue is that most of those things don't work for people. Very, very few people are able to remain dedicated to them. Staying consistent is tough in the world that we live in!

But by signing up for a physical monthly newsletter, you're able to put yourself on the path to success for a few reasons.

  • You'll be doing something different. Your brain learns to ignore repetition. And chances are, at this point, it's basically filtering out things like YouTube tutorials and Google searches for information. But this is different. This newsletter will be new and exciting, and keep your attention in a way that spurs focus.

  • You're making a commitment. By spending the money on the newsletter, you're not going to let this fall to the wayside like oh-so many other endeavors. You'll be incentivized to get everything you can out of it- and trust me, there's a lot to get out of it.

  • You're surrounding yourself with talented peers. After each and every edition of the newsletter comes in, you will get to discuss its contents with other subscribers online and utilize the teachings of the book every single month of the year.

YOU WILL BECOME A MASTER OF FILM ANALYSIS, WITH THAT EXPERTISE INCREASING EVERY SINGLE MONTH

Let's talk about what you're getting.

Every single edition of the Lifelong Film School Newsletter will consist of two components.

One will be general. It could take many different forms. It may be about news in the film world, or about how the SCENE framework can be generalized to other things, or an interesting historical example of film criticism in which there is a lesson to be learned.

And the second will be homework.

Although the fun kind! (if you can believe it)

Each month, a film will be given out as homework. And each reader of the Lifelong Film School Newsletter will be strongly encouraged to watch that film on their own time ahead of the following month.

Then, that next month, half of the newsletter will be dedicated to dissecting that film. Talking about what it did well. Talking about what it didn't do so well.

And using the newsletter, you'll get a chance to put what you've learned to practice every single month.

Because after all, learning is- okay, I think you get it at this point.

But really.

PRACTICE IS VITAL

And maybe you're some kind of super dedicated individual who can perfectly stick to a schedule without any kind of outside pressure. Hey, if you are, power to you! Most people just aren't built that way.

Even if you are, though, you still might want to consider giving the newsletter a try. Because I believe...

THE LIFELONG FILM SCHOOL NEWSLETTER WILL BE THE BEST THING YOU READ EACH MONTH

Every month you can count on one thing: I will invest all of my energy into making a newsletter that any film lover would go crazy for.

In today's world as an adult, it's difficult to find the time to read and enjoy it. If you have a job and a commute, chances are you're too drained to spend two hours reading every night. Throw in kids, or other obligations? It gets really, really difficult.

That's why this newsletter is so awesome.

It's a very digestible read. Don't think this is some singular, double-sided piece of paper, though. You'll get pages and pages to read through, lovingly collected together, about the best thing in the world: film.

Ideally, most months you'll be introduced to exciting movies that you haven't heard of before, get the chance to watch and analyze them on your own time, and then read an interesting analysis of them the next month.

Of course, occasionally, an old classic might be visited, or a popular movie with a particularly apt lesson to impart. There are no absolutes in The Lifelong Film School Newsletter besides being engaging and educational.

EVERY MONTH, YOU WILL GET A PRINTED NEWSLETTER THAT MAKES YOU A BETTER FILM CRITIC, MOVIE WATCHER, AND THINKER!

Each month, you will experience the excitement of my newsletter arriving on your doorstep. You will look forward to that time when you get to rip open a fresh new issue, sit down with a cup of coffee or tea, and dive into the world of a movie.

And on top of this, you'll learn little nuggets of wisdom about movies, about film criticism, about their production, and more.

I know this letter will transform your life.

FAQ's

When will I receive the newsletter?

Each issue of The Lifelong Film School Newsletter is sent to the print shop on the first business day of the month.

For instance, if you started your trial on September 15th, your first issue will be sent to the print shop on October 1st (assuming October 1st is a business day).

The print shop takes 1-2 business days to print, package, and ship your issue.

For U.S. customers: Your issue will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail (it typically takes 1-3 business days to arrive).

For International customers: Your issue will be shipped——with love and care——via standard mail (and takes 3-6 weeks to arrive).

If you ever have any questions about your order, I want you to email me personally at [email protected]. I will take care of you.

What happens if you increase the subscription price?

Don't worry; the price you get in at right now is what you'll pay forever. At some point in the future, there is a plan to raise the price of the newsletter to $74.98 (which is what it's really worth). However, the rate you get today ($48.95/mo.) is the rate you'll pay forever. You're "grandfathered in," as they say.

Why $9 for the trial?

This is what it costs to print the newsletter. (Actually, it costs just a little bit more than that, but just a little bit.) I don't skimp out on quality. A high quality paper and ink is used to make the newsletter last. It does not tear easily or fall apart. You're just paying the cost of getting it to you.

Do you offer any refunds?

No, that defeats the purpose of having a free trial. The reason I offer a 1-month free trial is to give you a taste of what you'll get. Still, if you're unhappy, I'm unhappy!——which is why you can cancel your subscription anytime. Just send an email to [email protected] before the first of the month clarifying that you want to cancel your subscription.

If I cancel can I resubscribe later on?

No. I work very hard to tailor my work to those who have a lifelong interest in learning, and will constantly be re-assessing what I write about in order to serve those people best. That means I don't want people who go in and out and in and out as a part of my subscribers. If I allowed those people in, then when I sent out questions or surveys or community posts asking what my subscribers need, I'd get bad data. So if you unsubscribe, that's it.

Of course, if you truly have a monetary issue, very rare exceptions can be made. If you fall under this umbrella, reach out to me directly.

Any other questions?

No?

Great. I hope to see you in class.
